Poetry competition winners announced

Three high school students in Madera County earned recognition at the regional Poetry Out Loud competition Friday at Yosemite High School.
Jazmin Jones and Alisa Choin of Yosemite High received first and second place Friday. Kara Grimes of Madera High, last year's first place and regional winner, received third place. Eleven eligible competitors representing four schools, Yosemite, Liberty, Glacier and Madera high schools, participated.
Other Madera County student participants were Jennifer Garner, Erin Navarro, Kyle Watkins, Sarah Wood, Dylan Demers, Kal Zeryihun, Jazmin Jones, Selena Johnson.
Madera County Supervisor Tom Wheeler said he is a big fan of the competition and has attended for four years.
