5 sex offenders at large

Friday, November 20, 2009

By DJ Becker

Madera police detectives are looking for five convicted sex offenders who are not living at their last registered addresses within the city limits, and who have not re-registered, as required by law, with police in other jurisdictions.

Francisco Alvarado Gomez, Augustine Espinoza, Jaime Mueller, Nemeso Alba and Bernardo Rodriguez have outstanding warrants for their arrest for failure to register or re-register and otherwise comply with terms of their release as sexual offenders.

Police also suggest residents be aware of the 140 convicted sexual offenders in Madera and where they live, and speak to their children about the dangers of speaking to strangers, among other sensitive topics such as inappropriate touching, by adults known to them or even by extended family members.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, sex offenders have one of the highest rates of recidivism or re-offense.
