Good people are doing remarkable things, according to a local agency that wants to hear about it.

The American Red Cross Central Valley Region is seeking nominations of persons, groups or businesses in Madera, Merced, Mariposa and Fresno counties who have committed a single act or continuous acts of heroism.

Such acts could include preventing a life-threatening situation from occurring, coming to the aid of another, or contributing to the safety of the community. The heroes should be ordinary people who watch out for others.

Awards are given in the following categories: Youth Hero, Female Good Samaritan Hero, Male Good Samaritan Hero, Law Enforcement Hero, Fire Rescue Hero, Community Partner Hero, Health Care Hero, Military Hero, Animal Rescue Hero and Spirit of the American Red Cross.
