Five teams will compete in MadTown Robotics' Throwdown today at the Joe Flores Gym on the campus of Madera High School, 200 South L St.

The competition brings students, engineers and volunteers together to build a robot that can fulfill a specific task.

Opening ceremonies start at 9:30 a.m. with qualifying matches from 9:45 a.m. to noon. Lunch will be from noon to 1 p.m., followed by finals from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and an award ceremony from 2:30 to 3 p.m.

"I want to personally invite friends and family to attend the MadTown Throwdown off-season regional competition hosted by the Madera High School Robotics Team (today)," said Alice Tesei, a Robotics' Booster Club member and mother of sophomore robotics team programmer Kevin Tesei.
