A Madera man allegedly under the influence of alcohol struck a pickup truck at the intersection of Avenue 12 and Road 25 Wednesday, seriously injuring himself and others in the mid-morning accident.
Orlando Silva, 22, was driving a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee eastbound on Avenue 12 just after 11 a.m. when he attempted to pass a Chevy S-10 pickup truck that was making a turn in front of him, striking it and spinning it around and into a field.
Silva was arrested for felony DUI, among other charges, according to officer Ronnie Lopez of the California Highway Patrol.
Witnesses to the accident told police the Jeep may have been going 80 to 100 miles per hour on the rural two-lane road at the time of the accident.
