Valley Teen Ranch held a ground-breaking ceremony Thursday in the Madera Ranchos for a new swimming pool and expansion of the physical education program that will begin construction.
The rural teen ranch on Road 35, near Avenue 12, provides specialized care for 32 at-risk boys from all over California.
"The pool will be part of our physical education program. That is why it is being built near the school," said Valley Teen Ranch director Connie Clendenan. "The kids will be taught CPR/First Aid and Water Safety Certification. It is something they can add to their resumes. The water safety certification will enable them to work as lifeguards."
The pool will be 60 ft. long and 30 ft. wide with a non-slick decking surface for 10 feet on the sides of the pool and for 8 ft. on the ends.
