Phone call leads to arrest

Two Madera boys suspected of breaking into a car and stealing a cell phone Tuesday morning were ultimately captured after they answered a call from the phone's original owner.

Authorities took 19-year-old Tyler Brundage and a 15-year-old minor into custody late Tuesday afternoon.

No sooner had deputy Jeff Thomas completed a burglary report at a home in the Madera Acres than the victim called back, according to Erica Stuart, Madera County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman. The victim said she phoned her cell and not only got an answer but actually cut a deal to get it back.

After she told the person on the other end that her phone had just been stolen, he reportedly told her that he just bought it from some unknown person for $40, and if she wanted it back, she'd have to pay for it...
