Madera County victim services learned Wednesday that it would be able to reopen its shelter for victims of domestic violence. The Martha Diaz Shelter closed Aug. 7 when it lost funding due to the state budget crisis.
On Wednesday, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed Senate Bill x3 13, which restored $16.3 million of state funding to support California domestic violence shelters.
Tina Figueroa, program manager, said they received a call from the state today informing them they should be receiving 70 percent of what they expected.
"And we also just learned that Chukchansi (tribe) is giving us $25,000 to open more beds."
