Mailbox bashers sought

Thursday, October 22, 2009

Mountain deputies are investigating a wave of overnight mailbox bashing in the North Fork area.

Nearly 40 residents woke up Wednesday to find their mailboxes destroyed, each of them bashed in sometime late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning, according to Madera County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Erica Stuart.

The commotion from the street was reportedly so loud some residents were awakened, but it was too dark to enable good descriptions of the suspects involved.

"The only piece of evidence deputies have at this time centers on two vehicles seen in the area as the vandalism was happening," Stuart said. "One of the vehicles is described as a dark-colored Honda Sedan; the other, a white station wagon."
