135 acres burned in foothills

RAYMOND - A wind-driven grass fire quickly burned at least 135 acres of pasture adjacent to Road 600, just south of the town of Raymond.
A six to eight foot wall of flames could be seen moving through the hills late Thursday night, causing some motorists and residents concern. Firefighters said the gusting, approximately 20 mph winds pushed the fire erratically through the rolling, tinder-dry pasture lands.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No injuries were reported.
The fire started at the roadside about 10 p.m. and burned from Road 600 to Runway Road before it was stopped by firefighters about midnight. Several occupied structures were threatened by the fire.
Karen Guillemin, spokeswoman for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, said the fire was completely contained Thursday night.
