North Fork will have a new volunteer fire station, thanks to an agreement by the North Fork Rancheria of Mono Indians, the North Fork Community Development Council and Madera County.
The pact was signed Tuesday morning during a meeting of the Madera County Board of Supervisors.
The present fire station was built in the 1970s, and has been inadequate almost from the start. At only 3,000 square feet, it lacks space for fire apparatus, according to fire fighters who serve there.
The new station will be built on the site of the old North Fork Mill on 2.6 acres.
