Madera County's new district attorney, Michael Keitz, 54, will be sworn in Jan. 8 to replace Ernie LiCalsi, who earlier this year was elected to the Madera County Superior Court.

Keitz is a Maderan by choice. He has lived in the city since 1979, but prior to that had lived in many places as the son of an Air Force pilot and his wife. Once he arrived in Madera, however, he decided to plant his feet in Madera's fertile ground.

"When I moved here," he said, "I decided I would never live anywhere else."

Keitz was born in Topeka, Kan., where his father was stationed at Forbes Air Force Base. The family then moved to Michigan, and then to England, which proved to be memorable.
