New local vicar general sworn in

FRESNO — The new vicar general for the Catholic diocese of Fresno, which includes Madera, swore the oath of office Friday.

Rev. Msgr. Raymond Dreiling replaces Bishop-elect Myron Cotta, who will be ordained and installed as the auxiliary bishop of the diocese of Sacramento on March 25.

Born in San Francisco, Dreiling’s family moved to Fresno when he was 2 months old. Ordained a priest in 1975, he has served in parish and administrative assignments. He begins his newest one March 17.

“This is a ministry I never anticipated, but I accept it with joy and enthusiasm,” Dreiling said Friday.
