New gun shop in Madera offers custom parts

An old business is taking a new direction to go along with its new name, and offering Madera area gun enthusiasts a custom product that only a handful of sellers in the state do.

Todd and Stephanie Houlding helped open Houlding & Kaufmann Ironworks, a welding and fabrication shop that offered general repair, about six years ago. The skills to manufacture things from metal combined with Todd’s years of shooting and hunting experience helped steer the way to the birth of Houlding Precision Firearms.

“It was good and we enjoyed it, but we wanted to find a product that we could do over and over again — taking one product and doing it 1,000 times, instead of doing 1,000 different jobs,” Todd said of the general welding and fabrication work.

“We were building a couple rifles because we’ve always been hunters and shooters, and we couldn’t get parts. So, we said ‘let’s do something we enjoy. Lets’ find something that we like.’ That’s how we settled on making rifle parts,” Todd said...
