Full mammoth unveiled
The replica of a fullsize Columbian mammoth awed many who attended a fundraiser that included wine tasting and hors d’oeuvres.
Its unveiling at the Fossil Discovery Center in Fairmead drew about 150 people, including city and county officials.
The Columbian mammoth, which is the largest exhibition at the center, cost $100,000 and was donated by San Joaquin Valley Paleontology Foundation board member Gerald McDougal and his wife, Judith. The nonprofit foundation operates the center.
