A new history column by Bill Coate will make its debut in the Tribune on Friday and each Friday thereafter. Coate’s latest foray into Madera’s past will include stories from, not only the archives, but from old timers (and not-so-old, old timers) as well.
Many of these stories have become part of the legend and lore of Madera but have never made it into print, so Bill is gathering them up for publication in his new column, “Coate Tales.”
They are intended to pique the interest of old timers and newcomers alike as they dip into the haversack of local history to pull out some of Madera’s most treasured tales.
The format for Friday’s “Coate Tales” will be similar to Bill’s “Pieces of the Past,” which ran on Tuesdays and has now been replaced by his “Snapshots of Madera’s Yesteryears.”
