Gov. Jerry Brown on Friday appointed Manuel Nevarez to represent the first district on the Madera County Board of Supervisors, a position previously filled by now-Assemblyman Frank Bigelow.

Nevarez 40, of Madera, has been an account executive at PMAC Lending Services Inc. since 2010 and owner of ACN Inc. since 2008. He was a senior account executive at Washington Mutual Bank from 1998 to 2008 and a senior loan officer at Santa Fe Mortgage from 1997 to 1998.

Nevarez is chairman of the Madera Unified School District Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee and a member of the Madera Community Action Network (MCAN).

Writing as MCAN’s executive director in November 2010, he agreed with a Tribune letter writer, who was disgruntled with how a proposed redistricting map for the City Council would carve up Madera. He said it failed to maintain “the integrity of all the neighborhoods in our city,” but hoped the final version would do better...
