Nearly 50 entrants in auto show

The Madera Elks Lodge held its fifth annual car show Saturday at Courthouse Park across from the lodge with, according to event chairman Harold Johnson, nearly 50 cars, trucks and motorcycles on display.

“Every year the show is increasing in entries,” said Johnson.

Overall awards were first place for Ruben Ramirez with his 1929 Ford, second place for the 1955 Chevy Bel Air of Richard Gill and third place for Dan Prosperi and his 1960 Chevy Parkwood Station Wagon. The top motorcycle was the Indian-Vulcan of Alfred Rodriguez. The Best of Show award went to Gary Long of Fresno for his brilliant yellow, with flames, custom 1932 Ford Coupe.

Richard Van Horn entered his blue 1967 Pontiac GTO for the first time and said he enjoyed the music, raffles and tri-tip lunch prepared and served by the Elk members at the lodge...
