Superintendent takes job himself

Madera Unified School District continues to trim its administrative staff, and this time the cut has put additional responsibilities on Superintendent Gustavo Balderas.

Instead of replacing Kelly Porterfield, Balderas will take on the duties of the former associate superintendent of business and operations.

The announcement that Balderas would add Porterfield’s job to his own list of duties came at a meeting of the MUSD school board on Tuesday.

In addition to not replacing Porterfield, Balderas announced several other cuts and combinations of positions that continue a five-year trend of central office reductions, which have saved the district more than $2.4 million over that period of time...
