Madera Unified School District trustees and administrators received a shock at Tuesday evening’s school board meeting. Trustee Lynn Cogdill charged the board with making secret deals to insure the appointment of a favorite-son candidate to replace former Superintendent Gustavo Balderas.
Taking the podium during the public comment section of the meeting, Cogdill called for board president Ricardo Arredondo to relinquish his position and recuse himself from any further voting for the new superintendent.
After the meeting, Arredondo said he categorically denied the charges.
“Trustee Cogdill has demonstrated inconsistency since being seated two years ago. He has demonstrated support and opposition to my leadership, and positions with respect to district decisions. It is unfortunate that he uses his position as a board member as a platform to make false assertions over and over again. I will continue to maintain proper decorum among my peers. I appreciate the support of the balance of the board.”...

I have to agree with Mr. Arredondo
I have to agree with Mr. Arredondo. Search Mr. Cogdill' s name in the Tribune and you find a man searching for causes, and landing on those that get him some attention. Mr. Cogdill is only out for Mr. Cogdill. He is known in the community for over imbibing on alcohol regularly at his 'house' parties, attempting to work 'deals' with folks in the community even as he accuses Arredondo of such. One only has to listen to Mr. Cogdill's impromptu speaking to know that his prepared writings and speeches are ghosted by others. He is an embarrassment to Madera and causes us to look as if we are the rubes the rest of the State thinks we are.
