MUSD picks new superintendent

Madera Unified School District trustees, after conducting two searches for a new school superintendent, settled on Edward C. Gonzalez of Fresno over John Ramirez of Salinas Tuesday night. Gonzalez will replace Gustavo Balderas who left Madera Unified in January.

Gonzalez’s selection received a standing ovation from the audience when it was announced by Board President Ricardo Arredondo.

Arredondo then invited him to the podium. Gonzalez said he considered his selection to be an honor and a privilege.

“It represents the culmination of a 32-year career in education,” he said. “I know we have a lot of work to do, but here I am.”...
