MUSD gets ‘purposively provocative proposal’

Madera Unified School District superintendent Ed Gonzalez has an idea that may set well with those who might oppose a school bond the district plans to seek in the near future.

Gonzalez wants to create a building fund taken from the district’s general fund, its operating budget, to help build the new schools he says MUSD is going to need very soon.

At a meeting of the school board Tuesday night, Gonzalez left the dais and took the public address microphone to make what he called a “purposively provocative proposal” to the board.

In his presentation to the board, Gonzalez proposed that the district’s contribution to the building fund be tied to the new teachers and support staff who will have to be hired to meet the increase in the number of students in Madera Unified...
