MUSD begins hunt for new schools chief

Madera Unified school trustees moved quickly to begin the process of selecting a new superintendent to replace Gustavo Balderas, who is leaving the district to become superintendent of the Ocean View School District in Huntington Beach.

In a special meeting Thursday evening, the school board hired the same consultant to search for Balderas’ successor who brought Balderas to Madera from Hillsboro, Ore., in the first place.

Wendell L. Chun, Ed.D., CEO of Educational Leadership Services, signed a contract with MUSD to conduct the search for a replacement for Balderas, who will assume his new position on Jan. 1, 2013.

In a presentation to the board Thursday, Chun said his company would conduct the search for Balderas’ replacement for less than half of what he charged the district in the 2011 search to replace former superintendent John Stafford...
