Missing man found dead

The case of a missing local man, Gerald Fontes, may have been solved, according to the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Department.

Two men were arrested Thursday evening about 5:30 at a residence on the northeast corner of Road 26 and Ellis Street, after the home was raided by uniformed and undercover Madera County sheriff’s deputies.

Gerald Fontes, 44, was last seen by family members at his home near Avenue 18 1/4 and Road 26 at about 2 p.m. on Feb. 26, and was reported missing March 4th.

A badly decomposed body, believed to be that of Fontes, was found by a motorist along a rural roadside in Mariposa on March 25. The indentity of the body was later confirmed by DNA comparison tests...
