The Madera Superior Court found defendant Jeronimo Ramirez Martinez mentally incompetent to stand trial earlier this week, according to District Attorney Michael R. Keitz on Wednesday.
Ramirez Martinez is charged with the murders of Fidel Hernandez, 20, and Delfino Hernandez, 41, on May 28, 2010.
After examining reports of two psychologists during an in-court hearing, the court concluded that Ramirez Martinez lacked the mental competency to understand the nature of the proceedings against him and assist in his defense at trial.
Judge Joseph Soldani has scheduled a hearing on Jan. 15, 2013, to consider his placement in a mental health facility to address his mental issues.
