Motorcyclist dies in crash

A 20-year-old Madera man was killed over the weekend when police said a truck clipped his motorcycle and caused him to careen out of control. Mere minutes before noon Saturday, Roger Godinez was traveling westbound on Yosemite Avenue near Pine Street, Madera Police Department Sgt. Thomas Burns said.

As Godinez traveled through the intersection of Yosemite and Q Street, Burns said, the driver of a Ford F-150 truck likely didn’t see him and tried to make a left turn across his path.

“This intersection doesn’t have a turn arrow,” Burns said. “Basically, when the light turned green, the driver of the truck failed to yield to oncoming traffic, turned, and hit Mr. Godinez’s motorcycle which sent it out of control.”

Godinez hit a nearby light pole, Burns said. He was pronounced dead at the scene...
