The smell, taste and sight of pomegranates filled an annual celebration for the fruit Saturday.
Organizers said more than 2,000 people ― about 500 more than last year― attended the second annual Madera Pomegranate Festival at Madera Municipal Airport.
“We couldn’t be happier with this turnout. We still have time to go and we’ve already, by far, eclipsed what we had last year. So it’s grown quite a bit for the second year and we’re really happy with that,” said Jarrod Lyman, the chairman of the Madera Tourism Alliance Committee that organizes the festival.
Lyman attributed the increased attendance to publicity via online, newspaper and television media. There were 55 vendors, including most from last year’s festival as well as new ones...
