Following a closed session of Madera Unified School District trustees early Tuesday evening, the board announced in public session that it had chosen Deputy Superintendent Anthony Monreal, Ed.D. as interim replacement for District Superintendent Gustavo Balderas, effective Jan. 1.
Monreal is currently serving in the first year of a three-year contract with Madera Unified that began on July 1.
“The board has confidence in Dr. Monreal,” said board president Ricardo Arredondo. “We appreciate that he has been part of the team as deputy superintendent. We look forward to his leadership until the next permanent superintendent is chosen.”
