Men to strut in high heels for assault victims

Madera men will walk around Courthouse Park in women’s shoes Friday to raise awareness — and money — for the victims of sexual assault.

The purpose of the walk is to help men better understand and appreciate women’s experiences, organizers say.

Victim Services employees at the Community Action Partnership of Madera County have organized the event five years in a row, said instructional aide Angelina Lopez.

“The donations from the event cover the expenses for our After Care Program for children who are victims of sexual assault,” she said. “It pays for an Empowerment Camp, art therapy and individual counseling for children who need intensive help to transition back into childhood after an assault.” ...
