Eight teams vied to make the best tasting chili for residents of Cedar Creek Senior Living and the community at-large. The second annual Madera Tribune and Cedar Creek Chili Cook-Off drew more than 30 people to the retirement home’s courtyard, where the cooks set up chili-filled pots and eagerly served samples to visitors. Attendees tasted each chili and voted for their favorite to receive a People’s Choice Award.
Ren Carter, Cedar Creek’s director of marketing, organized the contest, in which businesses and individuals competed.
Competitors were: Ron and Tamica Mealy from The Madera Tribune; Renee Rager of Optimal Health; Cathy Wieland; Darlene Floriano, who is the western regional manager for C&F Foods; the Vineyard Restaurant; Cindy Vail of Vail Insurance Services; Ted Pistoresi of Pistoresi Ambulance and the Madera Kiwanis Club.
The winner was Madera Tribune’s own advertising executive Ron Mealy, with his wife Tamica. The couple’s chili also won the People’s Choice Award. They received a trophy and a plaque.
