Massaro enjoying children, grandkids since retiring from dairy operation

Since being honored as the 1996 Madera County Senior Farmer, Henry Massaro has led a relatively relaxed life. “I’m pretty well retired,” Massaro said. “Some mornings I’ll help my son drive a tractor but that’s about it.”

Massaro, 85, was honored for his work as a dairy farmer, but in 2004 he retired from day-to-day operations on his ranch.

He left most of the work on the farm to his son, Steve Massaro, and the land’s focus moved away from less-profitable dairy products.

“We switched from dairy to almonds and some other stuff,” Massaro said. “It’s been good. There have been a lot of good years.” ...
