Man suspected of DUI sustains injuries in collision

A 22-year-old man suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol was injured in a head-on collision on Road 24 1/2 just north of Avenue 12, according to The California Highway Patrol.

The three-vehicle collision happened Thursday evening in heavy traffic, just before 9 p.m.

Eduardo Sanchez Nunez, 22, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and cited for driving without a license, among other charges, according to officers. He was taken to Madera Community Hospital with minor to moderate head injuries, and then booked into Madera County jail.

Witnesses said Nunez was northbound on Road 24 1/2 at a high rate of speed in a late model Dodge Durango SUV, when he failed to stop for the stop sign at Avenue 12...
