A Madera man is lucky to be alive after intentionally running through traffic, resisting arrest and assaulting officers and battery on medical personnel on State Route 99, near Avenue 12, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The man was walking south on the right shoulder of the highway Saturday night about 6:30 p.m., taunting motorists and allegedly heavily under the influence of drugs, and raging and incoherent when officers arrived.

Angel R. Gutierrez, 45, was arrested on multiple felony charges of resisting arrest, assault on a peace officer, under the influence of a controlled substance, and may also face other charges of endangering the public. He was taken to Madera Community Hospital with minor injuries, and for further observation.

He was released from the hospital midday Sunday and booked into Madera County jail...
