Authorities report only a few incidents during holiday period

A man was stabbed and slashed several times with a grape knife during a fight in a yard near C and 11th streets, according to police.

He was taken to Madera Community Hospital with deep cuts to his face, arms and side, and other non-life threatening injuries. The other man sustained superficial cuts and declined medical treatment. 

The two men said they had been drinking heavily at a nearby party Saturday night when a fight over a girlfriend erupted. Police confiscated a 12-inch kitchen knife that had been converted into a weapon and sharpened.

Officers said due to conflicting names and stories, both men are considered victims and also suspects. The investigation is ongoing...
