Man killed in crash with big rig

FAIRMEAD — A 27-year-old man was killedWednesday about 3:15 p.m. when he lost control of his SUV and struck the back end of parked tractor-trailer on Maple Street, near Yates Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP Sgt. Lincoln McKenna said the deceased had no identification and officers were interviewing nearby residents and otherwise attempting to determine who the man was and where he was coming from.

“The investigation is ongoing, but alcohol and use of a cell phone are under investigation as factors” in the fatal crash, McKenna said.
