A man was shot in the foot Sunday afternoon after being hit by a car and chased by rival gang members for about five blocks, Madera Police Department officials reported.

The Hispanic man had reportedly been chased by rival gang members near D and 5th streets and was struck by their car and rolled off the hood, officers said. The group of men then chased the man on foot and in the car for about five blocks, during which time he was shot in the foot.

About 2:40 p.m., officers were called to 4th Street and Gateway Drive, where witnesses directed them to a set of apartments at Gateway Drive and Yosemite Avenue, where the wounded man was found. He was taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, and the wound is said to be non life-threatening, officials said.

Madera Police detectives are investigating the case. Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Chavez at 675-4243 or Crime Stoppers at 498-STOP.
