Man gets 9 years for one-punch death

A Madera man was sentenced to nine years in state prison for his one-punch assault that caused another man’s death, Madera County District Attorney Michael Keitz announced Thursday.

Johnathan Warren, 41, was sentenced last week in Madera County Superior Court, Keitz said.

On a July evening last year, Paul Carranza, 57, of Madera, was at Courthouse Park with friends when a fight broke out between Warren and Theodore Hernandez, 40, of Madera, Keitz said.

After the fight, Carranza went to BJ’s Liquor at 4th Street and Gateway Drive in Madera, and Warren followed him to the store. When Carranza got out of his car, Warren punched him in the face, Keitz said...
