Driver sustains major injuries

A 24-year-old Madera man died Friday morning when the car he rode in collided with a tree near Parksdale on Road 28 1/2 north of Avenue 13 1/2, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The 27-year-old driver, who lost control of the car, also sustained major injuries in the crash and was taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno. The driver could face charges in the crash, depending on the results of the investigation, according to officers.

The fatality, Rogert Cibrian, Jr, was the front passenger in a Nissan Altima. Both men had reportedly just gotten off work on the night shift of the nearby Baltimore Aircoil plant on Road 28 1/2.

CHP officer Ronnie Lopez said the collision happened about 7:10 am in clear and dry roadway conditions...
