CHP: Alcohol may have been a factor in accident

DAIRYLAND — A man was killed about a half mile from his home Monday afternoon after he lost control of his car on Road 18 1/2 near Avenue 22 and slammed into two large pistachio trees at a high rate of speed, the California Highway Patrol said.

Officers estimate the man was driving more than 70 mph and alcohol is being investigated as a factor in the crash. The car was northbound on Road 18 1/2 at the time of the crash, according to witnesses.

The man, whose name is not being released, was likely killed on impact, officers said, as his Honda spun several times and came to a stop with a large tree intruding into the passenger’s side door.

An open container of beer was found near the man wedged into the debris of the car. He was not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected...
