A Fresno man was convicted of felony grand theft and will be sentenced Sept. 27 for shoplifting more than $2,500 worth of merchandise from the Lowe’s home improvement store in Madera.

Samie Jamil Mahmood, 49, was found guilty Thursday by a Madera County Superior Court jury, District Attorney Michael Keitz said.

Deputy DA Ranna Jahanshahi introduced evidence that in fall 2009, Mahmood entered the store on numerous occasions and stole merchandise. Store security eventually discovered the thefts and turned the case over to the Madera Police Department.

Mahmood faces up to three years in county jail when he is sentenced.
