Man convicted of armed robbery

A 54-year-old Madera man who held a store clerk and her infant daughter at gunpoint has been convicted of armed robbery and will be sentenced Sept. 11.

Gregory Garcia was also convicted Tuesday on a special allegation for the use of a firearm, and for being a felon in possession of a firearm, Madera County District Attorney Michael Keitz said.

On Aug. 23, Garcia walked into a Madera convenience store, pointed a gun at the store clerk and demanded money. When the victim did not act quickly enough, he pointed the gun at the clerk’s 7-month-old daughter and threatened to shoot her, Keitz said.

After the clerk handed Garcia the money, he ran from the store. The Madera County Sheriff’s Department arrested him the following day...
