2nd victim in hospital
A 33-year-old man was killed in a fiery rollover on Avenue 12 about a mile east of Highway 41 early Wednesday, according to the California Highway Patrol. Alcohol is being investigated as a factor in the crash. A male passenger was critically burned, but survived.
CHP Public Information Officer Mark Cosentino said firefighters went to put out a small roadside grass fire about 5:30 a.m. and only then discovered the burned-out wreckage of the crash.
“They then discovered the surviving passenger in the field, and the burned-out car and the fatality. The car fire was already out and the rollover crash may have happened several hours earlier,” he said.
Officers said even the make and model of the incinerated car was difficult to identify until they could locate an area on the frame not burned by the fire...
