Madera police arrested a 36-year-old man after a brief pursuit and standoff at a house in the 200 block of south D Street. No injuries were reported.

Juan Barboza of Madera was arrested Saturday night on charges of interfering with a peace officer, evading, and possession of controlled substance for sale. He was booked into Madera County jail.

The incident began when police attempted to pull over an older, burgundy Honda sedan with two occupants.

Officers said the driver failed to stop and then attempted to lose police by driving through alleys and residential streets in the downtown area. The driver, reported to be Barboza, stopped and ran from the car and into a house on South D Street...
