Volunteers and mail carriers worked together to collect donations for the local food bank during the annual National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.
Mailers and plastic bags were delivered to houses in the city and county last week advising them of Saturday’s food drive. The instructions were simple: collect and bag non-perishable food items and place them by the mailbox for the letter carrier to pick up and deliver to the local food bank.
Forty-two mail carriers picked up donations from city and county homes. Madera Ranchos residents tend to donate more, organizers said.
Last year, the local U.S. Postal Service office collected nearly 11,000 pounds during the Stamp Out food drive for the Madera County Food Bank. The amount collected this year was unavailable as of Sunday evening...
