Maderans in College: Grow named to All-Tourney team

Former Madera Coyote girls volleyball standout Katherine Grow earned All-Tournament honors for the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs last week.

Grow averaged a double-double in leading the Banana Slugs to a 2-2 record Aug. 31 and Sept 1 at the Puget Sound Premier Tournament. She recorded 52 kills and 46 digs to lead the team.

Grow, the Most Valuable Player among Division III independents last season, put down 14 kills with 7 digs in a 3-1 victory Tuesday over William Jessup-Rocklin. Her team is currently playing in the Posada Royal Invitational.

At the Aggie Open, hosted by UC Davis, Carina Mendoza (Madera) placed third on the Fresno State women’s cross country team in 21st place for a third place team finish...
