A 47-year-old Madera man has been convicted on two felony drug counts.

Madera County District Attorney Michael Keitz said Patrick Lee Smith was found guilty Thursday of possession and transportation of methamphetamine.

During the three-day trial, Deputy District Attorney Mary Thornton presented evidence that on April 3, 2010, the Madera Police Department stopped Smith for a traffic infraction.

During the encounter, Thornton said, Smith told the officer he thought his license might be in his back pocket. While the officer was attempting to retrieve the license he discovered a package of methamphetamine...
