Maderan celebrates 90th birthday with more than 200 friends

Longtime Madera resident JB Overstreet celebrated his 90th birthday with more than 200 guest at a party at Pardini’s Restaurant in Fresno.

Overstreet said since he had never been to Hawaii he and his family decided to celebrate his birthday with a Hawaiian themed Luau buffet — complete with whole roasted hogs. Guest were greeted with Hawaiian leis and many arrived in Hawaiian attire.

Overstreet received a proclamation from the City of Madera, delivered by Council Members Gary Svanda and Sally Bomprezzi. Overstreet was born on Sept. 26, 1922, in Cowington, Okla., on a cattle ranch. He moved to Madera with his familyin 1936 and attended Dixieland and Fairmead Elementary Schools and Chowchilla High School.

He joined the Army in 1943 and was discharged in 1946. When he came home on furlough in 1943, he married Alice Ecker. They had one daughter, Linda Overstreet Hatfield, and adopted a son, Jerry Overstreet...
