Her charity will provide for war-torn towns

A Madera woman left Wednesday for Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia, where she will work for two weeks providing charitable help in wartorn towns outside the capital.

Jane Wiebe, who spoke briefly Tuesday at the Madera Rotary Club luncheon at Madera Municipal Golf Course, said she has traveled to Bosnia for more than a decade to bring food, medicine and doctor care to Bosnians still suffering from the effects of the civil war of the 1990s.

“When I first went over there, I couldn’t believe the conditions many people were having to live in,” Wiebe said. “Frankly, in a lot of areas, things haven’t improved much.”

Wiebe formed a 501c3 charity, Help is on the Way, to raise money to help Bosnians help themselves...
