With a new five-year agreement in place with promoter Kenny Shepherd, the Madera District Fair and Shepherd are both ready to kickoff the 2012 race season at the Madera Speedway.
“I believe that Kenny is the right guy because he’s about as passionate as one can be, especially given the fact that he’s willing to hang in there in a very soft economy,” fair CEO Scott Sample said.
Shepherd, who won often at Madera in the 1990s and raced on the NASCAR Southwest Series, started promoting at Madera in 2006 and has seen the speedway make major improvements in that time. The five-year agreement also has a five-year option, that could carry the deal through 2022.
“In 2006, as so many people know the Madera Speedway was closing, and I came down with our company and we put a deal together where we did a five-year deal with them,” Shepherd said. “During that fiveyear period, we’ve been working on many things to improve the facility and make it more modernized.”...
