Madera South FFA freshmen win state championship

Five freshman members of Madera South High School FFA were named the State FFA Championship Team for the Best Informed Greenhand contest this month.

Virat Kang won first place in the state competition, while Julissa Larios placed second, Vanessa Maravilla placed fifth, Jorge Mendoza placed eighth and Justine Esparza placed tenth.

The contest, open only to freshman FFA members, consists of a test with matching, multiple choice, true or false and fill-in questions to test students’ knowledge of FFA history. Each team’s top three scores were totaled and Madera South swept the top spot, outscoring second-place Minarets FFA by 30 points. Buhach Colony FFA in Atwater took third.
